"Wedding Do’s and Don’ts" from A Soolip Wedding

Hope you are enjoying this series of wedding ideas from A Soolip Wedding! At this elegant event, Kathy Nenneker, the editor of the prestigious Los Angeles Weddings Magazine, made a presentation entitled Weddings Do’s and Don’ts. This turned out to be the most practical list of wedding tips I’ve heard anywhere. Kathy obtained this information through years of experience and interacting with the best wedding professionals in the business. Today I’m going to pass them on to you!

This was a 20-minute presentation and I took five pages of notes, so here they are…

- First step in the planning process – choose your venue and book early
- Then choose your style or theme
- Make an inspiration board with clippings from magazines of things you like, then narrow it down to make a selection
- Bring both families together in the planning process - invite both families into planning events
- Reflect your personal style - have a photo booth, cigar bar, signature drinks etc.
- Practice your first dance
- Practice your vows, especially if you wrote your own
- Get things done early if you can – such as gifts for the wedding party
- Don’t buy the first dress you see
- Don’t buy a smaller dress anticipating a weight loss
- Take your veil and headpieces to your hairdresser ahead of time, take pictures, then bring the pictures to your hairdresser on your wedding day so he/she gets it right!
- Make sure the aisle is wide enough for your dress and train
- Take a family member or brides maid to your last fitting so they know how to help bustle your dress on your wedding day
- Take all your brides maids into consideration when picking dresses, account for all sizes and shapes
- Pick your photographer based on their work as well as their personality, spend time with them to get to know them either by getting engagement photos or while looking through their sample albums.
- Send Save the Date cards
- Make sure you send an invitation to people in your wedding party and your officiate
- Order 15 more invitations than you need
- Get extra thank you notes
- Number the back of your response cards incase your guests forget to put their name on them
- Take time to relax the week before your wedding, go to a spa, etc
- Don’t leave big things for the last day
- Assign and delegate things to your friends and family so you can savor the moment
- Wear a button down shirt when you have your make-up done
- Don’t force little kids down the aisle if they pitch a fit!
- Take off your watch…this should be a timeless moment
- Hold your bouquet low, arms straight
- Cherish every moment, as Kathy said, “it’s your very own love story”Now you can see why I was feverishly writing during her 20-minute presentation. These are short, practical gems that can make your special day an enjoyable one. These ideas are just examples of the many you will find in Los Angeles Wedding Magazine.
