Need Help Finding a Wedding Photographer?
May 14th, 2008 | Wedding Photography

Unless you were recommended a good wedding photographer by a trusted friend, finding a good wedding photographer is probably one of the scariest decisions you can make planning your wedding. After all, when the wedding is over all you will have are your memories and hopefully some beautiful pictures to help you remember your ceremony and reception! Pretty important stuff!
So, what can you do to better your chances of getting a good photographer? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a certification process from a respected group? Maybe one that was recognized as the Knot’s Best of Weddings 2008, Best of City Search 2008, Photo District News Top Knots, and is a certified member of Here Comes the Guide?
Bella Pictures has certified photographers across the United States that pass a rigorous certification process and their work is 100% guaranteed!
You can check out their website to find out more about how they operate, but it looks pretty good!

Kind of sounds like a blind date to me…. I guess that can be fun for some people, but it sort of scares me personally.
There are so many great wedding photographers in each market that a concerned bride can spend a bit of time finding the one that fits their style. If business background is a concern then be sure to check references and get referrals from friends just like you would do with any vendor.

I am afraid I have to disagree on using the Bella Picture Nation wide representative !! They are doing a mass market approach to wedding photography hiring young photographers to do the job - I do not want to get carried away but this is a
Mac Donald Philosophy when a lot of photographers have spent the past twenty years bringing wedding photography to an Art form. Wedding Photographer in France
I have actually had two experiences with Bella that weren’t good at all. They find good photographers to freelance for them, but it is a crap shoot. I would never hire someone that I don’t get to meet in person until the day of the wedding. The SCARY part of your article is hiring a photographer unseen.
We used Bella Pictures (they are based in San Francisco) and the above writer (oliver) is right, they do not use good photographers. Our photographer was 30 minutes late and the pictures did not look professional to me. Album layout with them was a pain since, basically we had do to it all ourselves and they are in San Francisco!
Wow! Quite the discussion. Thanks to everyone for participating.
Andy, were you able to meet with them prior? I had the impression they had affiliated photographers across the country. Where are you located. Thanks for your comment.
“…Bella Pictures has certified photographers across the United States that pass a rigorous certification process and their work is 100% guaranteed!…” On that quote, I just want to add that being a professional wedding photographer doesn’t require passing some sort of driving test. I would love to know what this rigorous certification entails as well as the 100% satisfaction Stamp - I am just kind of getting infuriated with the whole wedding photography business these days. It just doesn’t make any sense anymore. Please go to my post and read what I have to say about wedding photography today!

Since the certification isn’t from an outside source, it is totally irrelevent. They seem to have a few cerfified photographers that they use all the time and fly around, and then use locals as second shooters. And, admin, you don’t meet your photographer a head of time. You meet a salesperson and then they match you up with a photographer that you can either go with or ask for a different one. But you don’t have any contact with your photographer until maybe a week prior, IF they actually contact you. They are just one of the many walmart style photographers out there, where it is all business. Proex and Lifetouch are getting in on this bandwagon too. ICK!
