How to throw a Royal Wedding

In case you missed it, yesterday, November 20th was Queen Elizabeth’s 60th wedding anniversary!

To mark their anniversary, this past Monday the Queen and her husband Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, attended a service at Westminster Abbey where they got married. Also at the service were 30 family members and 2000 guests! Then yesterday, on their anniversary, they traveled to Malta where they lived as a young couple from 1949 – 1951.

So, how do you throw a royal wedding? I can’t give you all the answers but the Queen released 60 facts about her wedding that might give you a few ideas. If not, I still found them to be interesting reading!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Custom Wedding Wines

Custom Wedding Wine

A while ago I wrote a post about custom wedding wine labels.  Now, the time has come to find out about custom wedding wines.  You might ask, what’s the difference?  Well, these come with the labels already on the wine.  So you, 1) Pick your label, 2) Personalize your label, and 3) Choose your wine.  Then the company puts the labels on your wine and ships them to you!

The Custom Wine Source provides a selection of different kinds of wines and over one hundred different kinds of labels which are easy to customize.  Or, you can totally customize your label and upload it.

Some other ideas are having customized sparkling wine or they have customized miniature sparkling wine you can give as wedding favors.

Having a holiday party?  They also have customizable Christmas wine labels as well as wine labels for other occasions.

Disposable Cameras

Since It’s Holloween, I haven’t had much time to put together a post but I thought this was a pretty cool site if you are looking for disposable cameras.  Having disposable cameras on the table isn’t anything new and it’s a cheap way to get your guests involved in your reception.  Not to mention you get to have a bunch of pictures to remember your reception!

Most of the disposable cameras I’ve seen are the plain black ones with a cardboard cover.  These on the other hand look pretty nice!  Checkout the huge selection at Weddingscenter.com!

Use the Stars to Plan Your Wedding

Brides Astrology

You may think this is absolutely ridiculous or you may think this is a great thing!  I, being a little more on the side of the former, was surprised to see Brides.com put such an investment into their new astrology section of their website.

From the press release they sent out today…

Brides.com’s new Astrology Guide advises brides-to-be on their relationship romance, wedding planning and more, cosmically! The feature on http://www.brides.com/astrology allows visitors to match up their zodiac signs for insight into their star alignment and customize a weekly updated Brideoscope to be sent to their personal email addresses. Brides-to-be can also consult the Cosmic Wedding Planner for complete astrological guidance from engagement to honeymoon and find out why it works, what to work on and a recommended song in Brides.com’s Mate Matcher section.

The Cosmic Wedding Planner on Brides.com provides astrological advice on everything from what kind of wedding dress to buy to where you should go on your honeymoon based on your astrological sign.

One of the resident astrologists on Brides.com also has her own blog.

Do you think this has any merit?  How influential is astrology in your wedding planning? Is it something you would base your plans on?  Just find it mildly interesting?  Or, do you think it is a waste of time?

Wedding Insurance: Are You Ready for Disaster?

The ongoing fires in Southern California bring to mind the need for Wedding Insurance.

Wedding Insurance should be something that you should at least consider.  It is relatively cheap considering the average cost of a wedding is around $28,000.

So what does it cover?  Different wedding insurance providers have different levels of coverage but here are some issues that may be addressed I found on Wedsafe.com, a wedding insurer.

Weather - If the policy is purchased more than 14 days before the wedding and adverse weather prevents the celebration from taking place or a majority of your guests from attending, the costs of rescheduling the event are covered. Be aware that dark skies and light rainfall alone won’t qualify as reason enough to cancel your wedding.

Key People - If people crucial to the wedding are unable to attend due to illness or injury, the cost of postponing the event is covered. This also holds true if the officiant fails to appear on your wedding day.

Military - If the wedding must be postponed due to the bride or groom in the military having their leave withdrawn.

Photographs & Video - If your photographer fails to show, if the film used for your photos is defective, or if the negatives are lost, destroyed, or improperly developed, this coverage allows you to reunite the wedding party for a re-shoot to capture your wedding memories.

Special Event Gifts - This coverage is designed to protect you against the theft, damage or loss of your special event gifts.

Special Attire - If your special event attire or one of your attendants is lost or damaged, this coverage will provide for repair or replacement.

Special jewelry - This coverage is designed to replace special event jewelry that is lost or stolen prior to your wedding day.

Loss of Deposits - If one of your vendors goes bankrupt or ceases doing business, this coverage will respond to reimburse you for any deposits you may lose as a result.

* Please note that coverage is subject to specific conditions, exclusions, limits and restrictions

How much does it cost?  Of course it varies but somewhere around $200-$500 depending on the amount of coverage would be pretty close.  It really is a small investment considering the cost of a wedding.

So if you are having your wedding in the Southeast during hurricane season or the Northeast during the winter or the Southwest when there are wildfire threats you might want to get insurance.  But for that extra piece of mind wherever you are it might be also worthwhile.

Another Unique Southern California Wedding Venue

Wedding VenueMany of you know I’m a horse lover so when I found out about this place I had to let you know about it!

For you horse lovers in Southern California, here’s a great wedding venue for you.  It’s called Calamigos Equestrian.  Calamigos Equestrian is located in Burbank, California and sits on 75 acres of landscaped fields and large sycamore trees.  But best of all there’s a bunch of horses!

My ideal wedding location would be outdoors in a beautiful pasture with full grown oak trees, surrounded by white wooden fences and of course horses in the background.

Having an outdoor wedding in the stadium jumping field would be pretty cool too.

Calamigos Equestrian offers full wedding packages including a wedding coordinator and of course a horse drawn carriage.

Wedding Favor Idea

Here’s a great idea for wedding favors or to have on the desert bar.  Many of you know I’m a chocolate fanatic!  So, as you guess I couldn’t just walk by this booth, especially with the free samples!  But I was also impressed with the unique packaging and the great presentation of these chocolates!  Here’s some pictures I took at the Patchi Le Chocolat.  Check out their website for more options!

Meet My New Friend…Preston

Well, this weekend I went to “An Exquisite Event” in Hollywood and had the pleasure of making a new friend, his name is Preston Bailey. He seems to have a knack for decorating and has some good ideas when it comes to party planning. We hung out for a while, talked about blogging, he said he just started blogging a couple of weeks ago. I told him to hang in there, one day he might make it to the blogging major leagues like Our Wedding Plus!

Okay, you got me…

I’m talking about the same Preston Bailey who put together Donald Trump’s wedding, Oprah’s premiere party for O magazine, and parties for almost every other big celebrity you can think of.

He’s also the author of…

Inspirations

Preston Bailey’s Design for Entertaining: Inspiration for Creating the Party of Your Dreams

Preston Bailey’s Fantasy Weddings

Here’s some information Preston passed on during his presentation at “An Exquisite Event.”

Where does he get his inspiration?

From his clients. He said 95% of his clients are women and he’s learned to listen to women and give them what they want.

He said he has two kinds of clients:

1. The kind that want their party to be bigger and better than their girlfriend’s
2. The kind that just want to celebrate and have a good time

His favorites are the ones that fall into category 2.

As far as specific advice for brides, he said…

Be careful with your budget. Think of what is most important to you and realize you can’t have it all. Cut out things that are less important and focus on the more important.

Figure out what your vision is for your event…romantic, traditional, color scheme and don’t do what everyone else is doing.

He stressed to make a dramatic statement that people will not forget. He typically would include at least one dramatic thing in the event design that people would amaze people.

He also stressed that you should do something exciting up the aisle. Check out his blog to see what he did for the aisle at a wedding on the French Riviera.

Some other tips I picked up were…

Only choose 1 or 2 different kinds of flowers. Many people go overboard with different kinds of flowers.

If you are using chair covers don’t use all the same style, use a couple of styles to make it interesting.

And when checking out your venue, don’t forget to check out the bathroom!

His favorite colors?

He likes to try different things but he does like yellows and golds

His favorite themes?

He likes a mix of traditional and contemporary. Doesn’t like it too contemporary.

And, like I’ve said, don’t expect your wedding to go off without a hitch! Preston told a couple of stories about some big things that went wrong at his events. So don’t feel bad just enjoy your day!

Now I did get to talk to Preston Bailey a little bit and I must say he is one of the most approachable people that I’ve met. I was amazed at how friendly and modest he was. He seems to be a truly nice guy.

And, Preston if you’re out there, if you ever need help with that blog of yours let me know!

Wedding Bingo

Okay, here’s a great idea. I picked this one up from today’s post on Manolo Brides. Never teh Bride had some great information for the groom today. But this one isn’t just for the groom.

Like I said the other day, no wedding is perfect so don’t get stressed out about it. To take some of the pressure off you about having a flawless wedding and giving yourself and your guests something fun to do check out groom411.com for the Wedding Bingo card.As Craig Michaels, the author of Thirty to Wife: The Tell-All Groom’s Guide to Weddings - How to Get Hitched Without Losing Your Mind or Your Fiancee, and owner of groom411.com put it…

“What can go wrong at the wedding? A lot.

Of course, your wedding will go as smooth as glass. Fingers crossed. Wood knocked. Minister tipped (and not tipsy).

However, you might want to hand these out to your friends just in case things get a bit bumpy. No need for everyone to have a bad time while your wedding is ruined, bride is crying and in-laws are choking you.”

Print some out and remember not to get too stressed out if things go wrong, you might just win the BINGO!
