Conde Nast came out with some interesting statistics last week about the big part bridesmaids play in the wedding industry.Bridesmaids are obviously an essential part of your wedding, assuming they play their part. There are a lot of things the bride has to worry about during the months of planning and especially on the wedding day itself!Hopefully your bridesmaids will be helping you get through the process without losing your mind! That being said remember you are also asking a lot of your bridesmaids in terms of money to buy a new dress that they may never wear again or even like. So how can you make sure you keep your bridesmaids happy?
- Let them pick their own dress style. If you planned on doing this you are in the minority (see below).Don’t worry you can keep control of your look and theme by specifying the color. But, your bridesmaids will be at least able to pick a style that goes with their body type and maybe get one they will wear again!Check out these beautiful examples above from Jenny Yoo.
- Make sure you get them a nice, personal gift as a token of your appreciation.Notice I said personal.I’m a big fan of getting both the groomsman and the bridesmaids a gift that is unique to their likes and personality. It really shows that your care.
Alfred Angelo unveiled their 2008 line of bridesmaid dresses a couple of weeks ago. They are presenting them as the bridesmaid dresses that you will wear again and again! The line is called the Knit Collection and I must say they look pretty nice! They definitely can be worn again and again which is always a nice selling point when you ask your bridesmaids to fork out a large sum of money for their bridesmaid dresses. The other thing I like is that you can mix and match all within the same color scheme.I’m a big fan of allowing bridesmaids to pick their own dress to fit their taste and body style. As long as it is within your overall style and color scheme, just like in the picture above. The Knit Collection won’t be available in stores until February 2008 but you can get a preview at their website, checkout Alfred Angelo!
The editor in chief, Theresa DiMasi, of Brides.com has come out with her top 5 trends in bridal fashion last week. Not only that, Brides.com has made available 20 videos of the latest bridal runway looks from the top bridal gown designers. These videos came from NYC’s Bridal Market, Fall 2008!
Here are the Brides.com Top 5 Trends in Bridal Fashion!
1. A Lighter Touch — lots of free-flowing, ethereal fabrics including
chiffon and organza with less embellishment, beading or other
adornments as in season’s past.
2. Color, Color, Color! — beyond the traditional white dress, color is
not just seen in bursts but in wonderful patterns, rich jewel tones
or new shades of pastels.
3. Jackets/Sleeves — brides who want options beyond the traditional
strapless gown are thinking more fashion-forward with gowns that
offer more coverage.
4. Emphasis of the Waist — honoring the female form, there were lots of large flower corsages positioned right at the hip to draw attention
to an hourglass figure.
5. New Lengths in Gowns — tea length to above-the-knee, there was a
larger variety in gown lengths than ever before.
And here’s one of the videos available from Brides.com.

Where are you getting your bridesmaid dresses? What do you think of letting your bridesmaids choose their style?
Looking for a cheaper yet elegant option for a wedding dress? I saw Isaac Mizrahi on Oprah last week talking about the wedding dresses he designed for Target. They modeled all the dresses in his line. The most expensive one was $159.99. The one with the sash below is only $89.99. This is pretty amazing since the average wedding dress is sold for $1,500!
Isaac Mizrahi also designed a line of bridal accessories including gloves and veils for Target as well. So, if you don’t have the money to go all out on your wedding dress, you are having a less formal wedding, or if this is your second time around, check out Target. They are pretty nice.
“My bridal gowns are all reinventions of the classics, providing an affordable alternative for women everywhere,” says designer Isaac Mizrahi. “I put a lot of design energy into designing this collection for Target because every bride deserves to find the gown of her dreams, regardless of her budget. Every woman remembers how she felt on her wedding day for the rest of her life, so ensuring she feels confident in the ‘perfect’ dress is very important to me.”
There once was a lady named Elisa Zuritsky, actually there still is, who had a little problem with her wedding dress. The place she bought it from went out of business before it came in and it finally arrived in a crushed box on her doorstep a couple of days before the wedding! Elisa did get married in a dress, a back-up she bought two weeks before her wedding.
Now she’s trying to help out some other poor soul who has another pitiful story to tell. She’s giving away, her brand-new, size 10 wedding dress(similar to the picture) to the person who has the best “Tale of Woe.” She’s running a contest on her website http://www.takemydress.com/.
So if you want more details on her wedding dress problems and how she can solve yours, checkout her website.
