Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!

Boy, Friday came fast this week!  Friday is my favorite day of the week since it’s time for me to compile my Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!  For those of you who are new to this, I scour over 40 wedding blogs each week and find what I think are the best posts of the week.  I look for posts that make you think a little or provide valuable and unique wedding planning information.  You’re not going to find your standard vendor recommendation here!  I’m also open to suggestions; if you have a blog that you think deserves attention let me know, I’ll add it to my RSS feeds.

So let’s get started!

  1.  First off we will start off with some great green wedding planning info.  My blogger friend Katie from Ethical Weddings over in the UK appeared this week on The Wedding Planning Audiocast.  If you want to see how they are doing green weddings over in England check out Katie’s blog and listen to the podcast!
  2. Are you trying to incorporate DIY aspects into your wedding?  Then checkout Lynn’s post over at The Handcrafted Wedding!  This week she featured a beautiful DIY wedding in which the couples family pitched in to make it really special.  It really turned out beautiful!  Check out “All in Who You Know” to see what I’m talking about!
  3. Okay, you know I love those relationship posts.  If you don’t know this checkout my relationship posts over the last couple of weeks!  So, Twistie’s post over at Manolo Brides really caught my attention.  Are you sure you are marrying the right man?  Just to make sure why don’t you checkout “How to Tell When It’s Right.”
  4. Ah, the agony of uninvited guests and the problem of inviting people to the wedding ceremony that you don’t really want to attend the reception.  This can be a tough situation.  How would one handle this situation?  See what the folks over at MatrimonyInc have to say in their post “Unwanted Guests.”
  5. If you finally feel comfortable with the concept of hiring a wedding planner after reading last week’s Top 5, now it’s time to choose the right wedding planner.  Liene over at Blue Orchid Designs is helping us out with “Questions to Ask Your Wedding Planner.”   These are actually “Frequently Asked Questions”   she is asked and her responses.

Let me know what you thought of this week’s Top 5 and then have a great weekend!

See you next week!

Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!

Hi everyone!  Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!  It’s time once again for the Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!  I have some good posts from a couple of blogs that haven’t appeared in the Top 5 before so let’s get started.

1. Do you have any deep secrets you haven’t shared with your fiancé?  Are you worried about what sharing this secret would do to your relationship?  Well in this case sharing her secret worked out good for Becky at BrauchTalk.  Check out the article “Sharing Your Deepest Secrets.”

2. On a more lighter note and in honor once again of Valentine’s Day.  I found this article pretty interesting over at Iwillchangeyourlife.com.  It also has some pretty good classical quotes about love.  Check out “What is Love?

3.  Afraid to hand over control of your wedding to a wedding consultant?  Well let Melissa set your mind at ease with this great post (thanks again Melissa!) “Afraid of a Wedding Consultant?”

4.  Well you probably see a lot of $50 or $100 give aways on blogs quite a bit but it’s the first time I’ve seen a $2000 give away!  If you’ve been following along, Liene at Blue Orchid Designs finally announced the winner of her Wedding Day Give Away.

5.  I love letterpress!  So I was glad to see perfectbound’s post called “Intro to Letterpress Part II.”  If you want to read about the finer points of letterpress check it out!

Musing

Well, hopefully you have a three day weekend!  Enjoy it!  I’ll see you back here on Tuesday!

Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!

It’s the end of another great week and time for another edition of the Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!  This week I focused on relationships.  Hope my talking about divorce wasn’t a downer for everyone.  Hopefully some of the info I wrote about will help you actually avoid a divorce.  Anyway, I know some of you may be looking for tips on how to plan your wedding, which is great and something I also like to write about, but I think it’s much more important now to prepare for what is going to happen after the wedding.  Like, the rest of your life!  So, I’d appreciate some feedback on what you though of my posts this week.  Just to let you know, I have a couple of good relationship type posts in the cue for next week, so check back in.  Keeping with the relationship theme, I have a couple posts from other blogs on relationship issues in the top-5.

1.  Here’s a great post from a great new blog.  You may remember Mrs. Fussypants from my Top-3 Tutorial Post last week.  Well, she started a new blog called Marriage Hacks.  You need to check it out and follow it after you get married.  I particularly liked her post this week “What Makes Husbands Happy.”  This applies to fiancés too and it’s sage advice so check it out!

2.  Here’s one from Mrs. Strawberry over at Weddingbee.  She gives some tips about keeping your marriage fresh in her post “What’s the Secret to a Good Marriage.”  There are a lot of interesting comments also.  One of the recurring threads was eliminate technology at times to spend time together.  Anyone have issues with you or your spouse being on the computer too much?

3.  Okay, enough about relationships with your fiancé, now let’s talk about  your relationship with your bridesmaids.  How hung-up are you about your bridesmaids appearance.  What if your maid of honor decided to shave her head the week before your wedding or got pregnant 8 months before?  Well sounds like some people are making their bridesmaids sign contracts.  What do you think of that?  Checkout this article over at Manolo Brides, “Contracts?  You’ve Got to be Kidding Me.”

4.  This one has nothing to do with relationships but its important none-the-less!  The second most important thing behind your relationship is looking good! ;-) So checkout Beauty Week over at Anne Chertoff’s blog at iVillage.

5.  Finally, let’s talk wedding planning a little.  Having a destination wedding?  Then you might want to check out “Destination Wedding Tips” over at Style Me Pretty.  Make sure you look at the comments too, there are some good tips in there.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Check back in next week for some great information about settling for Mr. Good Enough!

Let me know what you thought about this week’s top 5!

1.        Are you sure you are marrying the right person?  Do you have cold feet?  Don’t worry that’s normal…most of the time.  Just maybe, you are trying to tell yourself something.  Never teh Bride has a great post this week entitled “when nerves are nerves and when nerves are not” about what constitutes cold feet and when it’s time to run!  Check it out!

2.       Vane over at Brooklyn Bride raised an interesting question this week.  When she gets married she’s wants to change her name personally but keep her maiden name professionally.  This is not unusual, but it can be complicated to handle legally.  Check out her post, “So I’ve got a Question,” and the responses if you are wondering how to handle your name change.

5.       What happened to the good old days when all it took was one night of debauchery for the groom to get it all out of his system?  Now it’s becoming popular for bachelors to take an entire weekend and do a “destination” bachelor party!  Have you heard of this, are you doing something similar for your bachelorette party/weekend?  Check out “Bachelor Parties Grow Up” at Aisledash!

As always let me know if you found some other blogs or posts that deserve highlighting.  Comments are always welcome!

It’s time once again for the Top-5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!  Found a lot of great posts this week so grab a cup of coffee and sit back and relax.  You are about to be taken on a stroll through the best wedding blog posts (in my opinion) of the week.  If I’m missing any that you thought were better, please share!

1.        I’m starting off with one of the most interesting articles I’ve seen in a while from my old blogger friend Katie over at Ethical Weddings.  Ethical Weddings is a great green wedding blog over in England.  Do you think Americans are extravagant about their weddings?  Do you think we go overboard?  Well check out this post entitled “Weddings… at any Cost,” we are not alone.  Very interesting read!

2.       Staying on the green wedding theme, here’s a new resource for you.  Liene over at Blue Orchid Designs has started up a Flickr group dedicated to green weddings.  Looking for some green wedding inspiration?  Check out this post entitled “Green Weddings on Flickr” for information.

3.       Last time I had Style Me Pretty on the Top-5, Abby was on the Martha Stewart Show, this time she was on the Lifetime Network show “Get Married.”  Abby has done an outstanding job representing the wedding blog community and she has been a great help to me personally.  She actually gave me my first break about a year ago by letting me guest blog on Style Me Pretty.  It will be nice to someday say, “I used to know her when…”  She is definitely destined for bigger things.   So to see her on “Get Married”  checkout  Style Me Pretty on Get Married.”

4.       Polka Dot Bride is starting a new series the “ABC of Weddings.”  It looks like it’s going to be a great source of information for everyone planning their wedding.  She just started out with “A” this week with a post about how to include special touches from your ancestry in your wedding.  So, checkout “The ABC of Weddings: A is for Ancestry.”

5.       If you did any wedding blog reading this week you would have heard about the RealSimple Weddings Book that was published by the folks at RealSimple Magazine it was blogged about on pretty much every wedding blog out there.   Well something you may not know is that Margit, an editor for RealSimple.com is getting married and just started her own wedding blog.   Currently there’s only four posts on it but she seems to be off to a good start so check out Margit’s blog!

Honorable Mention:  I had to mention that my friend Melissa over at Masterpiece Weddings is running her first giveaway!   So if you want a $50 gift card, go check out this post at Masterpiece Weddings!

Hope you have a great weekend!

2.       The guys seem to be typically left on their own to get ready for the wedding while the ladies have all kinds of professional help.  Guys, you can thank Liene from Blue Orchid Designs for coming to your aid with her post “getting ready tips for the groom.”

3.       My old blogging buddy Thryn from Wedlog planned and blogged about her eco-friendly wedding from start to finish.  It was an amazing process to follow and her wedding turned out beautifully!  Now here wedding is going to be featured on the Sundance Channel!  Find out more about it at her wedding blog.  Congratulations Thryn!

4.       Want to be a wedding planner?  Well, you might be interested in getting some experience by interning for an experienced wedding planner.  Evidently your are not alone.  So, if you are contemplating approaching a wedding planner to ask about interning, you might want to read “why I won’t hire you!”  It’s blunt, straight forward, and true!

5.       Finally, one of my favorite wedding blogs made me aware of the 2008 Bloggie Awards.  Unfortunately, I can’t remember which one, if your out there let me know and I’ll update this post.  But, evidently this is a pretty big deal.  So I highly recommend you go to the 2008 Bloggies website and vote for your favorite blog…”Our Wedding Plus!”
