Does Marriage Make You Smarter?

Thomas Cook, Ph.D. author of The Memory Advantage: Improve Your Memory, Mood And Confidence Throughout Lifethinks so. It just doesn’t happen automatically when you get married. The opportunity to share experiences and information with you spouse can help your knowledge grow.

During the early stages of your relationship, while you are still infatuated with each other, you have that euphoric feeling and all you can think about is being with each other. Not much knowledge growth going on there!

But, during the more mature stages of your relationship things evolve into “a more mind cultivation of love and respect,” according to Dr. Cook.

Dr Cook recommends you take up activities as a couple to help cultivate your minds, some examples he gives are:

Dance Lessons

Watch a movie together and discuss the plot

Learn a language together

Take on a home project

It seems many couples tend to grow apart over time in a relationship. Having a strong relationship takes work and investment. So, I believe taking on a hobby together, something that you can enjoy together will do wonders for strengthening your relationship and make it last! Not to mention, make you both smarter, which is nice too!

Do you and your fiancé have common interests?

Wedding Dresses by Jenny Lee

Jenny Lee Wedding Dresses

Hi everyone! Sorry for not posting much this week but we’ve been out horse shopping! I finally found my new horse. We go to pick it up next week! So, since I haven’t been posting too much, I’m not going to do a Top-5 this week but pass on some good bridal gown info.

Are you familiar with Jenny Lee bridal gowns? Jenny Lee’s gowns are definitely top of the line, made with imported fabrics from Italy and France. Her wedding dresses are simple and elegant.

Jenny Lee recently announced that they will be introducing her new Fall 2008 collection called JL Couture on April 12th.
Here’s what Jenny had to say about JL Couture:

“I am proud to introduce my new line, JL Couture, it offers fashion forward women the ability to create their own look while not feeling like a traditional bride.” says Jenny. “Each gown enhances a woman’s body and unique beauty. This bride is confident and has her own point of view about how she wants to look on her wedding day.”

They actually sound intriguing. JL Couture gowns are supposed to provide a formal look for the ceremony and a “red carpet” look for the reception by offering mix and match pieces, eliminating the need to buy two dresses. Plus they claim you’ll be able to utilize the pieces again after the wedding!

I tried to get some pictures but wasn’t able to. I guess we’ll have to wait until April 12th.

Jenny Lee dresses range between $3,500 - $8,000.

The dresses shown above are from the Jenny Lee Spring 2008 Collection.

Cigar Rollers Near You!

Cigar Rollers

Looking for something different for your wedding reception? Hiring cigar rollers has become more popular these days but you may be wondering where you find a good cigar roller and what kind of services do they provide.

Well, I think I found the answer! CF Dominicana has provided cigar rollers for many high profile Hollywood events and they also provide this service to private events like weddings too! They also have cigar servers and can provide customized cigar bands.

Now they have a website that can link you to CF Dominicana cigar rollers across the United States.

Here it is: CigarCatering.com

Here’s a quote from CF Dominicana press release:

CF Dominicana helps anyone plan for cigar rollers at their event by
providing in-house professional event planners and graphics design to
ensure the success of the event. The company creates custom cigar bands
which have been a huge hit to the industry, creating personalization that
has never before existed with cigars. This personal approach to its cigars
has made CF Dominicana popular with everyone from Brides-to-Be to corporate
decision makers and even the regular person that just wants a cool addition
to their party. The Brides and the corporate events are the strongest right
now, in fact, the company has just finished another cigar roller event for
a wedding featured on theKnot.com cable show.

Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week

Wedding Rehearsal Cake

Happy Good Friday, and indeed it is a good Friday because it’s time for the Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!  Another great lineup this week.

1.         I’m starting off with one of the coolest cakes I’ve seen, pictured here.   This is a wedding rehearsal dinner cake made by Pink Cake Box.   This cake covers both careers of the couple, she’s a make-up artist and he’s an electrician, check out the contents.  For more info  check out the Pink Cake Box Blog Post about it!

2.       Perfect bound had a great post this week with tips about getting ready on your wedding day.  She’s sharing some tips that she got from Bubble & Lo and I must say they are good.  These are things you would normally learn the hard way.  So benefit from this great advice, check out the post bubble & lo!

3.       Like I wrote a few weeks ago, money and marriage sometimes don’t mix.  Well, Leslie over at Decidedly Uncomplicated has had some experience with couples facing financial issues while planning their wedding and has seen how trouble can be stirred by others.  Check out It’s always about money and get some advice how to avoid trouble.

4.       Are you looking into hiring a wedding planner?  Affairs with Elegance, a Baltimore, Maryland wedding planner’s blog, had a post this week you should checkout.  Some planners out there may lack ethics and they have some advice for brides and grooms and for wedding planners!  Check out Website Portfolios and Photo Galleries.

5.       After the Elliot Spitzer scandal this past week, Bridezilla raises some good questions.  Has modern weddings really evolved?  Is marriage going to stifle your life?  Checkout Domestic Policy: Are Dreams the New Dowry? It will make you think!

So that’s it for this week!  Let me know if you found any good blog posts you’d like to share.  Have a great Easter weekend!

Britney’s New Looks!

Okay folks, I found a new toy.  Brides.com came out with a new tool, the Brides.com Wedding Day Hair Studio, to help you brides “try on” new hairstyles and makeups.  It also helped keep me entertained today.  But hopefully me entertainment can give you an idea of what you can do with this thing.  So here we go, some of my creations look pretty bad, but I must admit some might not be too bad, you be the judge.

Okay, lets start with a bald Britney Spears…

Now using the amazing Wedding Day Hair Studio, lets “try on” Paris Hilton’s make-up and hair style.

Here, Britney is trying on Hillary Duff’s look.

And finally, here’s Britney trying on Jennifer Aniston’s make-up and hair style.

Okay, this pictures may be a little discouraging. Britney might be better off staying bald. But give the Wedding Day Hair Studio a try and let me know what you think!

Destination Weddings: Planning a Caribbean Wedding?

Destination Weddings

If you’re planning a destination wedding in the Caribbean there’s a new resource available for you. Conde Nast Brides, Modern Bride, Brides.com and Caribbean Tourism Development Company have come together to provide a site called “Passport to the Caribbean,” a one-stop-shop for information on having a destination wedding in the Caribbean. On the site you can find out passport information, contact information to find out marriage requirements, and there’s information and links to help plan your trip.

This site, hosted by Brides.com, is also running a couple of contests. The first one going on now is the “Capital Wedding” contest. You can win a wedding in Washington DC and a honeymoon in the Caribbean. This summer they will be running the “Sparkle in the Sand Engagement Contest” where you can win a trip to the Caribbean to get engaged on the beach.

Here’s some destination wedding statistics from Conde Nast’s “American Wedding” Study 2006 that you might find interesting:

  — 16% of couples have a destination wedding which is a 400% increase in the last 10 years
  — average number of guests for destination wedding is 47 vs. avg # of 165 for a non-destination wedding
  — 25% of destination wedding couples honeymoon in the same location they were married

Are you having a destination wedding in the Caribbean or anywhere else? What is the most difficult part of planning your destination wedding?

Here’s something different and something you may not have seen…maternity wedding dresses! There are a few maternity clothes designers that include wedding dresses in their lines, here’s a few.  I came across an interesting press release about maternity wedding dresses the other day.  Here’s a sampling of some of these maternity wedding dresses, checkout Destination Maternity for more.

Top 5 Wedding Blog Posts of the Week!

We had another great out there on the wedding blogs!  Here the best I could find this week, at least the Top 5.  Let me know what you think or if you found some posts that deserve mention.

1.      So, when you send out your invitations that end in “and guest”  do you care who that guest is?  Well if you do or if you are just interested in the etiquette of this situation, check out “Invitation Etiquette: And guest means any guest

2.     I admit I’m a little biased on this post.  Miss Penguin over at Weddingbee found some inspiration in one of my posts about paper lanterns from several months ago and posted about it, check out Paper Lantern Inspiration over at Weddingbee.

3.     Melissa, you made it again.  I’m also biased here because Melissa is a great wedding blogger and puts a lot of effort in posting very useful and interesting info.  This post is about the Jewish tradition of having a Ketubah or a marriage contract.  Check out Marriage Contract.

4.     Here’s a post about wedding candy bars, something my guest blogger, The Party Goddess wrote about a couple of weeks ago.  If you are interested in putting one of these together for you reception then I recommend you check out Polka Dot Bride’s post ABC of Weddings: L is for Lolly Buffet.  It’s a very detailed post about how to put together a candy bar for your wedding!

5.     Finally, my favorite topic, Wedding Cakes!  The Wedding Fairy over at Don’t be that Bride gave us some things to think about when picking out that wedding cake.  Check out The Tasting: You Got Served (Part III).  That’s it for this week!  Hope you have a great weekend!
