It’s time for the Top-5 wedding blog posts of the week! It’s going to be hard to keep up with the great response I got last week but I’ll give it a try!
I’m going to start off with a couple of posts about blogging. It may not seem like it but blogging takes some work. Coming up with new stuff everyday and trying to keep the quality up is tough.
1. There’s a whole lot more to blogging than meets the eye. Check out this article to see what I’m talking about from Blue Orchid Designs Blog…”blogging – it’s a hard knock life”
2. I found this NY Times article via Weddingbee’s Weekly Roundup again. This one talks about the success that can come out of blogging if you keep up with it. Mrs Bee from Weddingbee is mentioned in this article. Checkout…”Blogging Your Way into Business.”
3. Are you out of ideas for your Bachelorette Party? Want to take the stress out of planning one? Well here’s an option from The Hostess with the Mostess Blog. There’s a company called Pink Veil that will plan all the details of your Bachelorette Party including hotels, transportation, dining, and more. Checkout PinkVeil to see what I mean!
4. Are you acquainted with MOG-zilla? How much of an influence is the Mother of the Groom in your wedding? The role of the Mother of the Groom is changing sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. Here’s another article I found courtesy of Weddingbee’s Weekly Roundup. This one is in USA Today….checkout “Groom’s mom takes a stand at the alter.”
5. Looking for a unique honeymoon idea that is not only fun but eco-friendly. Well, last and definitely not least…Abby at Style me Pretty wrote about a company that provides some great eco-friendly and definitely unique honeymoons. You definitely will have the most unique honeymoon on the block! Checkout her article “Eco-Friendly Honeymoons.”
Hope you enjoyed this weeks posts! Let me know if there’s a blog out there I’ve been missing!
Have a great weekend!

Thanks to Weddingbee’s Weekly Roundup, I found an interesting article in the NY Times entitled, “At Weddings, Efficiency vs. Etiquette.” The main gist of the article was about the etiquette of asking for cash as a wedding gift. I guess there is a “long standing stigma” about asking for cash as a wedding gift. In one case cited in the article a couple is planning on returning the material gifts they receive from their gift registry in return for cash, in a way of getting around asking directly for cash. Which sounds a little ridiculous and dishonest to me. But anyway the gift registry has become the accepted way of a couple asking for gifts without really asking for gifts directly. The couple says these are the things we need, you can buy them if you want or you don’t.
Anyway, the article mentioned the growing popularity of alternative registries such as MyRegistry.com. Through MyRegistry.com a couple can register for pretty much anything from any store or just cash all in one place. It makes it easy for your guests to find something for you and for you to keep track of what you are getting.
The one thing that got me when looking at MyRegisty.com is that they are trying to sell it as a place for anyone to have a gift registry all the time, for birthdays, father’s day, or no occasion at all. Is this taking it a little too far? Are we as a society getting some entitlement issues or a little spoiled? I’d be interested in hearing what you think.

August 13th, 2007 — Wedding Invitations
Do you plan on ordering your wedding invitations online? Does the idea make you nervous? You are buying your expensive wedding invitations online, sight unseen. How do you know if the image of the wedding invitation you see online is actually what you are going to receive in the mail?
If you’ve been shopping around for wedding invitations online you may have seen sites claiming to have online proofing. What does that mean? Well it can mean a couple of things…
In most cases, an “online proof “ isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. The company has to print out the proof you built online, manually typeset it, and then print your wedding invitations. This opens up opportunities for errors during the typesetting process.
The only true online proofing is done with a patented process called Checkmate. Checkmate preview technology allows you to see an exact typeset copy of your wedding invitation online immediately. Once you submit your order, this exact preview is sent directly to the printer, no manual typesetting required. Not to mention it’s a faster process too.
Something to think about if you plan on ordering invitations online. Ask your wedding invitation vendor what their typeset process is and if the final product will look exactly like the preview.

How important are your eyebrows? Well, ladies I personally feel when your eyebrows are shaped and properly groomed, you see a difference in your face immediately. It is like having an instant eye lift. Now, I have been getting my eyebrows shaped for years, but I never have had them done so perfectly until now. I have been lucky enough to sample a few salons in Beverly Hills. I have been known to complain about being stuck out here in the Mojave desert in California, but it does have its advantages (like being an hour and a half away from LA).
My favorite salon is Valerie’s Salon, it is also the favorite of many stars including Teri Hatcher and Nicole Kidman. I have had my eyebrows waxed, my makeup done, and even false eyelashes once. I always have so much fun when I go, and I now know why the movie stars always look flawless. I must admit, that I feel like a million bucks every time I leave Valerie’s. Even after the makeup comes off, my eyebrows look great for weeks after. So I guess the reason why I am sharing this with you is because I really think eyebrows are the most important feature on your face and can have a drastic affect on your appearance if they are properly waxed. Perfectly shaped eyebrowas can improve your appearance as much as an expertly cut hairstyle. So, when you are preparing for the big day, don’t forget your eyebrows. But, don’t wait for your wedding day to find the perfect place to have your eyebrows done! Try a few out to make sure you don’t make the wrong decision right before your wedding. You need to start looking at least several months out, ask around, and don’t go for the cheapest place you can find. Also, remember eyebrows take a while to grow back if you choose the wrong salon!
By the way, the last time I was getting my brows done at Valerie’s I saw a beautiful girl having her makeup and brows done for her wedding that evening. She looked amazing… like she belonged on a magazine cover.

August 7th, 2007 — Destination Wedding
Last Thursday and Friday, my husband and I went to Solvang, Ca for our anniversary. Solvang is a small little town established by Danish settlers back in the early 1900s. The architecture and atmosphere is fashioned after traditional Denmark. It is located in the wine country made famous by the movie “Sideways” north of Santa Barbara.

We stayed in a place called the Wine Valley Inn (picture below) which was quite a good deal considering it’s right downtown (less than $100/night). So, what did I like about Solvang? The weather was great, there’s bakeries everywhere and they are awesome and what else? Wine! There’s a bunch of wine tasting rooms all over the place. We really liked The Olive House where they had an olive and wine tasting. They actually paired the different stuffed olives with a different wine which you got to taste together!

Anyway, if you are looking for destination wedding options, you might want to check out Solvang. Not too sure if it would be a good idea for a huge wedding. But if you are having a small quaint wedding and want your guests to get a taste of wine country, check out Solvang.

Today I got some tips to help you avoid some slippage. Slippage of both your gown and shoes! I found these on a show called “Wedding Gown Secrets Revealed” on WE TV.
If you are concerned about keeping the sides of your strapless gown in place, your straps slipping off your shoulder, or your dress coming open at your bust line, then I have a product for you…

Hollywood Wedding Gown Tape is a clear double-sided tape that comes in packs of 36, they are 3 in x ½ in strips that is also hypo-allergenic. Might be a good idea to put a box of these in your wedding emergency kit.
So now for the shoes…checkout Foot Petals, Runaway Bride Product. The Runaway Bride set comes with a variety of products that help you keep your shoes on.
For the inside of your shoes, there’s a variety of cushions that can be stuck in your shoe that not only make your shoes more comfortable, they also keep your feet from sliding through the toe! The set also comes with Sole Stopper stickers that go on the bottom of your shoes to keep you from slipping on wet or slick surfaces.

There’s a blog game going on around the blogosphere, kind of like a chain letter, and I’ve been “tagged” by my blog friend Thryn over at Wedlog. Now its my turn to pass on 8 random facts about myself and then “tag” 8 other bloggers to do the same, so here goes….
1. I grew up in Somerset, Mass.
2. I spent 8 years in the Air Force. It was a great experience that gave me the opportunity to see other parts of the country. Since my husband is still in the Air Force it’s kind of like I’m still in. If it wasn’t for the military I would still be living in Mass.
3. I have a passion for horses! I began riding when I was when I was 5 yrs old. I love riding dressage and currently own a 16.1hh American Hanovarian.
4. After high school I worked as a tour bus guide and took groups of tourists to places like Canada, New York City, and Atlantic City.
5. I have two brothers and one sister. We are a close family and I love to go home to Mass. for holidays.
6. I have a 19 year old son who goes to college in Arkansas. He was here with us in California for the summer and he just left to go back to school today. So this is kind of a sad day for me.
7. My favorite movie is Four Weddings and a Funeral. My favorite part was the eulogy given at Gareth’s funeral, you have to see it to know what I mean.
8. I Love Crabs! I could eat dungeonous crabs until I explode!
So now it’s my turn to tag 8 other bloggers…
