Explore the Blogosphere

As you may notice, I come to you today without any pictures, thanks to Blogger! Blogger had some serious issues last night which left all of the Blogger.com bloggers unable to upload pictures. So instead I’m going to do something different today and let you look at someone elses pictures.

Wedding blog readers lend me your eyes, I want to expand your horizons today. If you are like me you jump from wedding blog to wedding blog throughout the day, and I’ll also go over to some style blogs to see what’s going on. It’s interesting to see the little communities that form around different topics.

But I must confess I have been sneaking over to the Photographer blogs too, my personal favorite is Jasmine Star’s. A couple of weeks ago she posted a list of her favorite Photographer blogs and I spent some time going through them. They are not only interesting, but as you might expect they also have some amazing photographs of many things including weddings. So I encourage you to spend sometime today or this weekend jumping over to see what the Photographers are up to, so checkout Jasmine’s post on Apr 4th to get the links to a lot of cool blogs!

See you tomorrow, hopefully with pictures if Blogger cooperates!

Also, make sure you comeback next week! Next week is going to be Groom’s Week at Our Wedding Plus!

If you brides are having problems getting your grooms involved in the wedding planning, you are not alone. We are going to have a special guest blogger who will help the grooms get involved. This surprise guest blogger will also help the brides understand the grooms a little better, so she can focus his attention on the things he does best. So get your grooms to also read Our Wedding Plus next week too!

We will be revealing who our special guest blogger is in our first newsletter this weekend! So if you haven’t yet, sign up for our free monthly newsletter!

Great Save the Date Options

Save the Date cards are becoming more popular so I figured I show you a couple of different options rather than the standard card. First, when do you send out a Save the Date card? I’d say not too far ahead so that it is forgotten(not much more than a year out), but if you are planning a destination wedding where travel arrangements are required I’d try to send out a Save the Date about a year prior, otherwise I’d say around six months. Don’t waste your time sending out a Save the Date two or three months prior to your event since you should be sending your invitatitions out very soon!

Here’s a couple of unique options that won’t break the bank (to see more just click on the pictures)…

Urgent Call to Action - Chocolate’s Days May be Numbered

Chocolate CakeSome disturbing news today…if you’ve been reading through my blog posts you know that I’m an absolute chocolate fanatic! I’m sure many of you can sympathize. Well, life as we know it may change forever…if some people in the chocolate industry get their way.

Oh, the great rich taste of chocolate, the smooth taste of the cocoa butter, the creaminess of milk chocolate………………………
……………………….wow, I think I lost consciousness for a second!

Unfortunately, in the future when you go to buy that wonderful chocolate to soothe your craving, you might be disappointed.

The U.S. Chocolate Industry, through its Chocolate Manufacturers of America (CMA), and in collaboration with the Grocery Manufacturers Association, have petitioned the Food and Drug Association (FDA) to change the current requirements for chocolate.
They are trying to get the FDA to allow the use of vegetable fat substitute in place of cocoa butter and milk substitutes in place of real milk.

Why would any American with chocolate running through his/her veins want this? Da’nged if I know, probably because it’s cheaper, so they can make more money.

What am I going to do?!?!?! I’m breaking out in a cold sweat! Is this a panic attack?!?!

Luckly, there is something we can do…if you want to make sure your voice is heard go to DontMessWithOurChocolate.com to find out how to contact the FDA. Please, for the sake of this chocolate addicted blogger, let the government know that you don’t want to be buying a Hershey’s Milk Substitute Vegetable Fat Bar in the future!

Elegant Eco-Friendly Invitations - Tree Free!

Looking for an easy and elegant way to add eco-friendly elements to your wedding? Go tree-free for your wedding invitations! Harvesting tree-free fibers does not disrupt natural eco-systems. Also, processing of tree-free fibers to produce pulp for paper-making requires considerably less energy and chemical input than does the processing of wood-based fibers. There are a few different options for tree-free fibers, such as kenaf, hemp, or recycled cotton.

A company called Cast Paper Art offers a unique line of 100% recycled cotton wedding invitations. They are all made by hand as shown in this picture. They are quite unique and elegant! Checkout these other Cast Paper Art 100% recycled cotton invitation options.

Another unique, eco-friendly idea Cast Paper Art offers are these “Blooming Favors” made of 100% recycled cotton fibers, fresh flowers, and wildflower seeds. Your guests bury them in ½ inch of dirt and keep them moist and they will bloom! They come in various shapes and have a personalized verse attached.

How to have the Coolest Wedding in Town!

Are you the “hottest” bride and groom in town? Do you “burn” with excitement at the thought of your wedding? Are you worried your wedding reception is going to be so “hot,” as Paris Hilton would say, that you are going to “burn down the house?”

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are in need of an ice sculpture.

Many of you, like me, might think of an ice sculpture as just something that would sit on a buffet table. But there are lots of unique options to think about. Check out these unique ice sculptures from Ice Creations, they are located in the UK but there are many options for those of us in the US, just google Ice Sculptures.

You can have them as center pieces…

Or you can have an entire ice bar…

Or another option is the “luge” where alcohol is poured in through the top of the ice sculpture, passes through the ice via a specially drilled hole and is caught in a glass or mouth at the end of it’s journey.… these come in a variety of forms, I kept them family friendly but there are other interesting options at Ice Creations.

Aren’t they “cool?”

See you tomorrow have a nIce evening!

Just Say No to Bobble Heads! Get a Personal Groomsman Gift

I’ve been reading about people buying custom bobble heads as gifts for the groomsmen. I feel the need to intervene on behalf of all the red-blooded groomsmen out there. I’m not sure where the idea came from or why anyone, especially a guy, would get excited about receiving a bobble head personalized in the image of the bride and groom. So I asked my husband Jack to help me out today by providing some manly gifts that will let your groomsmen know you appreciate them! So, I want to give Jack credit for giving me the man’s perspective…

First off, I think it is much better to get your bridesmaids or groomsman each a unique gift for their unique tastes. If one likes golf, get him something golf related, if one likes cigars, get him something cigar related, if one likes bobble heads, get him a some counseling sessions :-), you get the idea…

Okay here’s some ideas geared to unique tastes…

For the golf lover: Checkout Groomstand.com for this Swiss Army Golf Set or Groomstop.com for this golf cooler. Both these companies have a wide variety of additional golf related gifts.

For the cigar lover: Both this personalized humador and cigar cutter are from Groomstand.com

For the executive: And once again, this leather Rawlings Portfolio and personalized business card holder are from Groomstand.com.

For the beer lover: Get a beer of the month club subscription. The Microbrewed Beer of the Month Club looks like a good option.

So, just say no to the bobble head and get you groomsmen something that they would actually use and know that they are appreciated!

See you tomorrow with some chilling wedding information!

An Easy Way to Help a Great Cause

Hi everyone, I wanted to start the week by spreading the word about how we in the wedding community can support a great cause, helping breast cancer patients and their families. The Making Memories Foundation has an ongoing fund-raising event called Brides Against Breast Cancer.

Brides Against Breast Cancer raises funds through the sale of donated wedding dresses at over 32 shows around the United States each year. Sales are made up of dresses donated by newly married brides, as well as brand new dresses donated by manufacturers and designers. These dresses are then sold at a big discount over their retail price.

Those who donate get a tax deduction, brides-to-be get a great discount on their dress, and breast cancer patients and their families get the support they need.

The mission statement of the Making Memories Foundation is:

“To provide an opportunity for metastatic breast cancer patients’ dream or wish to be fulfilled by providing a special time of ‘Making Memories’ together with their families, a chance that might not have become a reality without the assistance of the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation.”

“To advance the awareness of breast cancer and to educate the public about the vast resources and support available to breast cancer patients and their families.”

There are more ways to help this great cause than donating or buying a dress through their sales events. To find out how you can help, checkout the Brides Against Breast Cancer website. There you will also find a schedule of their gown sales events around the country.

See you tomorrow!
